Project Overview
Byblos Constructions was engaged to deliver the supply and installation of an 18kL BioMax Aerated Treatment Unit (ATU) system and associated discharge leach pad at Rio Tinto’s Yandi Mine.
The project formed part of infrastructure upgrades within the “Loop” facilities, requiring integrated civil, plumbing, and electrical works delivered within an operational mining environment and in accordance with RTIO and Australian Standards.
Scope of Works
- Site establishment, permits, and HSE compliance
- Clearing and preparation of leach pad and BioMax footprint
- Supply & installation of 18kL BioMax ATU system
- Construction of new discharge leach pad
- Installation of fencing, gates, and signage
- Installation of potable water services and emergency shower facilities
- Modifications to existing pipework and services
- Installation of filtration, sample point, and flow meter
- Decommissioning of existing septic tanks and leach drains
- Removal and off-site disposal of redundant infrastructure
- Electrical installation including cabling, control systems, and DB connections
- Testing, commissioning, and full project documentation (ITRs)
Key Challenges
- Delivering works within a live mining operation while maintaining safety and compliance
- Coordinating civil, hydraulic, and electrical disciplines concurrently
- Managing installation in a remote Pilbara environment with logistical constraints
- Ensuring compliance with RTIO specifications (SS-N104, SSB-105) and Australian Standards
- Working within design and permitting requirements, including Department of Health approvals
Outcomes
Byblos successfully delivered the BioMax ATU system and leach pad installation in line with client requirements, achieving:
