Project Overview
The JSE Fuel Facility Project at Yandicoogina involved the refurbishment and upgrade of critical heavy vehicle refuelling infrastructure for Rio Tinto (RTIO). Byblos Constructions was engaged to deliver civil and concrete works to enhance the durability, safety, and functionality of the fuel bay within an active mining environment.
Scope of Works
- Demolition and removal of existing concrete fuel bay slab
- Saw cutting and excavation of existing pavement and subgrade
- Subgrade preparation, testing, and compaction
- Installation of trench drainage systems and tie-ins to existing infrastructure
- Construction of new reinforced concrete slab designed for heavy mining equipment loads
- Installation of ancillary infrastructure including bollards, signage, access controls, and safety features
- Coordination with third-party contractors for integration of hydrocarbon systems and existing services
Key Challenges
- Live Operational Environment
All works were completed within an active fuel facility, requiring careful staging to maintain uninterrupted refuelling operations and safe interaction with site personnel. - Interface with Existing Services
The presence of underground electrical, hydraulic, and communication services required non-destructive excavation and precise service location to avoid disruption or damage. - Heavy-Duty Design Requirements
